About Aalo Atomics

Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.

About the role

As a mechatronics engineer you will develop electro-mechanical systems and machines which enable safe and effective plant operation. You will own all phases of development from conceptual design through to manufacturing and validation. You will work in cross-functional teams and will build prototypes throughout the design process to demonstrate design choices.

What you'll do

  • Design electro-mechanical systems for a next-generation nuclear plant
  • Design and fabricate test benches to validate key technical concepts
  • Select and integrate off-the-shelf sensors and actuators into larger systems
  • Collect and analyze testing data to justify design decisions
  • Perform rigorous analytical and numerical calculations to steer conceptual design
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing engineers to deliver subsystems which integrate with the larger plant
  • Document analysis and testing data to justify decisions to company leadership as well as industry regulators
  • Collaborate with in-house machinists, welders, and technicians to quickly build prototypes

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Proven track record of owning electro-mechanical projects from concept through to fabrication and testing (including hands-on building)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in a mechanical CAD software
  • Highly adaptable in fast-changing dynamic environments
  • Self-starter attitude: identify company needs and address them with limited oversight
  • Mastery of first-principles, physics-based hand calculations and analysis to justify design decisions
  • Experience integrating actuators, sensors, and data acquisition systems quickly in test benches

Preferred

  • Previous startup experience
  • Familiarity with PLC programming
  • Familiarity with electrical test bench design (e.g. control cabinet builds, PCB layout, breadboarding, micro-controller selection, etc.)
  • Experience with GD&T drafting standards
  • Experience with statistical analysis of testing data
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline

Physical

  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
